Buying a "New" Truck

So I'm currently in the market for a used truck, and I've come down between this 2000 Mazda b4000 extended cab (4.0l Cologne), and a 2003 Toyota Tacoma regular cab (2.7l 4 Cylinder). Both models are 4wd with 5 speeds along with similar mileage (around 170,000) along with having extremely clean and rust free frames and bodies. Based on all of your experiences, which direction would you recommend and what are some common issues with both?

First the obvious response. We on the Mazda Forum love all that is Mazda so Mazda all the way....

One thing to investigate is the Toyota Tacoma frame rust/rot issue. I am not sure exactly what model years or specific vehicles were affected but I think it was around 2003. Worth investigating.

I am not an expert on either vehicle so I can't give an honest recommendation or other factors to consider.

Additionally unless my memory is suspect the 4.0 B4000 is a re-badged Ford Ranger so with the exception of the grille/headlamp area you have two sources of any parts you might need. The Mazda & Ford part numbers do not cross reference though so you have to be specific ordering anything.
