Default Best way to add bucket seats?

Hey Folks,

We have a 1984 Mazda B2000 Sundowner with a bench seat. We'd like to take it out (simple to do) and replace it with two bucket seats and perhps, a center console.

We're trying to figure out ... what would be the best way to attach bucket seats? There is a proprietary rail system in place now for the bench.

Is it as simple as getting two seats that are comfy, marking 4 holes on the floor (per seat), then drilling hols through the floor boards and anchoring them with nuts and washers?

Or, should I be trying to adapt the rail sysm to a new seat?

We'd really like a seat with a head rest, that is cloth, adjustable and more comfy than what we have now. Has anyone out there added Bucket seats to ther Mazda B2000 (pre 1985)? If so, can you share photos? I found a stock b2000 on line (1984), automatic that came with bucket seats from mazda ... but they are rare.

Any suggestions or ideas would be great.

thanks!

Default RE: Best way to add bucket seats?

I'd find some junkyard buckets that you like that are complete (Mustangs are pretty common, just about any seat will work fairly well.) then place the seats in the truck and try to get the height dialed in (woodenblocks under feet to level it out and position it) Then take somemeasurements and make up some brackets that would bolt to the stock feet on the bottoms of the buckets, that would also bolt into the floor. (I'm thinking maybe a C-channel of some kind. Make some new holes in the floor where you need them, and make sure to use some fairly large washers on thetop & bottom side of the body to reinforce the sheetmetal where you made the hole (prevents them from pulling through in an impact....no guarantees, but better than justa bolt through the floor.)

You'll need an angle grinder with cut-off wheels, a drill and a welder to do this.
