Default b2600i code 3

hi, i have a 91 b2600i thats giving me a code 3 for dist. G or G1 signal. i did have a couple broken wires on the 4 pin connector on the dist. and i fixed that but i still have the code. is this a common problem on these trucks or should i diag. it? i've noticed that a lot of people get their ecu's repaired by AvPro.i really can't be out of a truck for a week but if i have to then i have to. what can i do?
thanks.

ok, some new info. i took the ecu out and opened it but i had to break the "void" seals. well i thought those were the factory seals so i broke them but when i opened the ecu it looked like someone had made repairs before. i saw one cap. that was replaced and a trace that was repaired. the seals were silver/chrome. does anyone know where that might be from?

Factory ECU's did not have tamper seals so that is a rebuilt unit. Code 3 is a crank sensor code which is contained inside the distributor. It was common for those distributors to fail and you would need a rebuilt distributor as i do not believe they sell the crank sensor seperately. The most common reason for an ECUfailure on those trucks was the injector harness and/or injector leak into the harness connector. When an injector leaks they leak straight into the inside of the connectors as that is plastic and is the weakest part of the injector. If your ECU is no good you should see a burn hole in the circuit board. Otherwise i would say the distributor is the problem. If you have not replaced the coil it is overdue also.

thank you for the reply. would a dist. and coil from a mpv with a 2.6 work or will it have to be a b2600i truck? man parts are a pita to find for this truck.

I believe they are the same but could not swear to it. Same engine so i would think it would work.

ok so i think i'll go with the replacing the dist. but do you think i could get away with just replacing the ignition module? they do sell it seperatly and its about $90 at kragen. does anyone know how it is installed?
thank you all for the help.
