Question B2500 diff issues

I have a 2000 B2500 double cab 2wd with 140 000kms on it always very well serviced and not driven hard but starting to get some issues with the diff. It is noisy, halfway between a whine and a bearing rumble. it appears to come from one side only but that may not be the case.. just where i am sitting. i have been told that they are notorious for diff issues and am just wondering if anyone has had problems before and gone about a rebuild? it is tempting to see if a 2005/6 diff will fit as then i could find a higher ratio and probably have a better quality product but i am just unsure about how bad mine could actually be. friction modifier and high grade oil do nothing to silence or quieten the problem. the noise is present at all speeds respectively whether driving or being driven ie: rolling down a hill. also off subject i have had trouble with the throttle sticking (i think) it seems to come on turbo way too strong when its cold rather than smoothly. any help much appreciated!
