Yes, a switch can go bad on the "run" terminal but be OK on the "start" terminal. In fact, on my old VW, I interrupt the "run" wire with a switch as a theft deterrent, so it would crank but not start. You need to use a voltmeter ot 12 volt test light to check out the switch, make sure positive current is getting to coil positive side.

wouldn't start for probably 20 tries.Left alone till weekend(today)Went to check voltage on coil in run and start position and fired up and ran fine.checked voltage anyway over 12 in both positions and starts now.Must be intermittent problem with key switch like you said. What do you think?

I had the same symptoms on my '92 B2200. Turned out to be a rusty fuel tank. The fuel filter was getting plugged up. I guess after trying to start it several times and then letting it sit, the rust washed off the element and it would flow gas again for awhile. You can check it by removing the fuel filter and blowing backwards through the filter into your hand. If the fuel comes out with a bunch of rust in it, you know what the problem is.

I put one of those glass fuel filters on mine just before the stock fuel filter. It filled with rust fairly quickly. I put a KBS treatment in the fuel tank and haven't had anymore problems with rust. It cost $67 including shipping.

HTH

Oops, I forgot that I had a bad intank screen that was letting rust get into the fuel line and up to the fuel filter.

If yours is still good you could still have rust, but you may not see it as easy as I did.
