It sounds like it needs HLA's ( hydraulic lash adjusters) and or rockers and shafts. It's not a difficult job. Remove the valve cover and rocker shafts with rockers. Lay them out on a table and completely disasemble the rockers from the shafts and check for wear on the pivot points of the rockers and shafts. If there is no excessive wear you can just pop the HLA's out of the rockers and replace them. If there is excessive wear on the rockers/shafts you will have to replace the rockers and shafts which can be quite expensive.
If you can find an old B2000 head/valve cover you can switch it over to adjustable valve rockers. The valve cover from the B2000 will have to be used if you do that.

You can replace just the HLA. They pop right out with pliers. You can manually pump the new HLA up before installation and flush your old ones by holding it down into a cup of oil and pushing the checkball in the end of it in with a paperclip while pushing the plunger. Then just release the plunger and it will suck new oil into it.
