Mazda BT 50 & Pickup Trucks While Mazda may not be known for their trucks, they have always produced quality reliable trucks for both hauling cargo, or simply crusing. BT 50

Default 87 B2000 high idle

New here. I bought this truck yesterday. It was a cool day (50) and it started fine and ran well during my "test drive". After driving it home (80 miles), I noticed that it idles at about 1100-1200 and won't settle below that. I tried "tapping" the throttle, but no change. I'm not familiar with this engine/fuel delivery system or what would be the possible cause(s). I entend to check all vacuum lines, but aside from that I don't have other ideas. Any thoughts would be appreciated

I think that your truck has a carburetor with electronic choke. You should remove the air filter cover and check that the choke is opening completely when warm. If not, it could be a problem with corroded wiring connectors, bad heater element or binding choke linkage. These carbs also have a fast idle detent to speed engine warm up after a cold start. You should check to make sure that the linkage on this is not binding.

I appreciate your reply. That helps me know what to look at. I'll be investigating things today. I was hoping this engine wasn't computer controlled...not my bag. :-)
