Default 2600i Not running HELP please!

Ok, new to the forums and I have searched. My truck is a 93 b2600i 5speed. The problem seems to occur then the engine warms up. It will Idle rough and sputter often dying. It will turn over fire and start but only run for a couple of seconds then die again. When the truck stalls and dies there is a solenoid that clicks intermittently with the key on. I believe it is the one attached to the fuel vapor canister.

I was able to reset the computer and nurse it home but it would still sputter and act like it was not getting a spark or fuel all the time. I turned the fan/heat on inside and that seemed to lessen the problem for a while but then it came back. The voltage is good and doesn’t fluctuate.

It runs like a Champ until the engine warms up, then the problems start. Any ideas? I’m going to get into it this weekend and see if I can find where the problem lies but any help is greatly appreciated.

:edit: The engine has about 36k on at and the truck has 151k miles.

It sounds like a fuel pump failing, but have heard of the same exact symptoms on Saturns do to the crank position sensor going bad.( they start and run great until they warm up, then they die ) One way of eliminating the fuel pump would be to keep engine temp down for a long period. Like in the driveway with a garden hose on the radiator.

One other thing you may want to consider is your temperature sensor. As a cold vehicle starts, the computer richens the mixture and keeps it that way until the truck warms up. If the computer doesn't recieve a signal to switch to warm mode it can cause similar symptoms to what you are describing.

Update: I checked the O2 sensor this weekend and it appears to be good. Also the temperature sensor seems to be good as well. I pulled the computer and checked for leaking capacitors. It was also good. I put everything back together and drove it for a couple of test-drives with the engine hot, and everything worked just fine. But this morning once I got to work (about a 30min Drive) I let it sit at idol for a minute or two and it started sputtering again.

One of the Solenoids starts to click every time the truck begins to sputter. If it dies the solenoid will keep clicking even when the engine is off (but the key is on) Any other Ideas? Still no CEL.

One thing you might want to try is swapping the computer out for a different one if you can afford it. You might be able to find a deal on eBay if you are lucky.

Do you get a check engine light coming on at all? You might have to bite the bullet and take the truck to a mechanic and have them throw it on their diagnostic computers.

No Check Engine light at all. The truck ran fine on the way to my house untill i turned the fan off. Then it instantly started sputtering again... so I turned the fan back on and it went away. turned it off again with the same results and then finished the drive home with the fan on.
