No, head bolts on these are reusable. I reused mine when I rebuilt the engine in my '88 fall 2011.

Here's what's more important (in no special order):
1. that the cylinder head was checked for straightness, or re-milled
2. that the head gasket was the preferred Mazda or Fel-Pro
3. that the bolts will be re-checked/re-torqued in 500-600 miles
4. that the reason for the head gasket failure has been figured out, and fixed
5. that the oil gets changed within a few hundred miles
6. that ALL the air gets purged out of the cooling system (challenging on these trucks)

I didnt get the head milled only because of urgency....me daily driver was down and i needed the mazda immediatly. Now that im getting my tranny back for the GMc....ill take the head back off and redo.
