Well I finally got the truck running great. Its had the carb upgraded to a webber, the vacuum advanced replaced, the fuel filter and gas tank replaced since it was rusty. The rust was my biggest problem causing it to slow down and have a hard time going uphill. Now it drives great and goes uphill fine. I do have a question on the truck since I am still getting use to it. It drives about like a Isuzu diesel box truck I use to drive some on a old job I had. IT runs great but not made for a quick takeoff. Eventually it gets to speed, but from what I gather this is normal for these trucks and I am fine with that. Anyway when the truck is warmed up it runs about 1000 rpm in park. When I get it to 55 on a flat road I am at about 2000 rpm. At 65 on the interstate its about 2500 rpm. When I am going up a steep hill it goes to roughly 3000 sometimes. Its automatic and it doesn't have any trouble pulling or it does not slip. It basically runs fine. But I was wondering I have had times when I got it above 3000 and up to 3500 at times. I guess I am still skiddish about the rpm since I had trouble in the past. As far as speed goes if there is times I can get it to 4000 rpm will this hurt the engine or transmission? I try to watch it and not get it over 3000 but I wonder if this is "babying " it too much. It could easily go to 3500 to about 4000 with no problems. I am thinking if it doesn't hurt I may try to go a little more rpm where it will go uphill a little faster. Most of the time I don't go over 3000 rpm and it can slow down to 45 mph. So whats a rpm not to go over? It has a automatic tranny and a 2 liter engine.

 

If the truck has been maintained half way decent it should handle 4,000-4,500 rpm ok. If you hear the lifters start to tick (which is common) drive it a little easier until they pump back up and quiet down. I take mine to redline occationally and don't have any problems.
