Default Stuck In Park !

1993 Mazda MX3 stuck in park. I just replaced the shift cable and I know the park safety switch in working properly when I put on the brake. I have taken pressure off the tranny by rocking the car, and tried to shift the fork at the tranny with the cable off, still stuck.
Should I try unbolting the shift lever at the tranny and pulling it out for inspection??

Is there any reason the tranny won't shift if i take the cable off the tranny end and shift it manually ?

Have you checked the shift interlock cable?
My 94 that's waiting on work has that problem, due to interlock cable. I haven't tried fixing it, since I'll be converting the car to mtx someday.
To move it, I have to manually release the cable at the shifter. There's a hole on the right side of shifter, beside the base of the shifter. I use a long nail that came with the car. Stick it in and poke around a little, feel a little give, and shifter is free.
I do not know and have no way at this time (spare parts from my 93's atx-mtx swap are buried in storage) to find out if your 93 has the same thing as my 94, but maybe this will help...
