steering column play has failed mot?
hi all, put my car through an mot and its failed because theres play in the steering column...
is there anywhere where i can tighten it up? think it may be due to the vehicle having an attempted theft and theyve broke the steering lock???
thanks

Hey Sam,
I'm not sure what you mean by "mot?"
If the play is in the steering column and not the rack then chances are good the bushings in the column are bad. You could rebuild or find another column in a junkyard.
However, it is much more common to develop play in the rack or tie rod ends. I would check those out too, or get a better explaination from whomever diagnosed the problem for you.

Ministry of Transport Test.
Cars in the UK have to undergo a test in a garage to make sure they're roadworthy every year.
I dont suppose your car has a clicking noise when you turn? :P I have MX3 posted on the newbie thread and saw this one and was wondering if it was the same thing before I put it through an MOT
