Is my MX3 really dead?

Driving my MX3-V6 on the freeway tha other day and it died on top of a hill. I coasted to the bottom and got over to the grass but the car would not turn over. A mechanic told me I should scrap the car because the cam bearings are burned and the front 3 cyl will not make compression.

Can't I just find someone to rebuild the engine? New piston ring kit and new beariings? Or is it true that I should put a brand new engine in this car?

Thanks for all your opinions.
Tommy

You can have the engine rebuilt, but it would be more work than just a ring job and bearings. The block, heads and crank are machined, new bearings ,freeze plugs, rings, gaskets, oil pump, cam shaft, water pump and timing chain are replaced. Or you can get a new long block. Last resort junk yard.
