Default Mazda mx3 1.6 1992 - engine light on - error code 03

Hi, Have a Mazda MX3 1.6 1992 automatic with the engine light on for quite few years. The car has no catalytic converter and O2 sensor was change recently. Ran the diagnostics and got error code 03 (G Signal Distributor). Other than that, the car runs perfectly, no issues starting the car and no problems at all besides some scape gasses entering into the cabin.
Question is: Any idea how to solve the engine light? What is and how to fix error code 03? Think the engine light is related to not having catalytic converter and thus the scape smell in the cockpit?
Thanks!!!!

Welcome to the forum

You are sort of answering your own question. The first thing is to get a CAT back on your exhaust system.
Aside from the fact the reason it is there mainly to protect the
environment!!!!! removing it serves no real performance value unless you are drag racing!

Unfortunately, the operating system predates OBDII (yours is OBD1) so it requires old school diagnostics and not relay on the code because they were nor accurate. That why in 1995 OBDII became the new standard with DTC more target area programed.

Thanks. Catalytic converter was removed cause the car was imported from de US to Venezuela and at the time there was no unled gas. Will put a new cat converter ASAP and clearing the codes to see if the light goes off.
