The auto repair world is one of cause and effect. I would have to assume something is drawing too many amps and caused the TCM issue. Hopefully they find what caused it. I would at the very least discuss the possibility and warranty of said repair with the service writer.

Default Stuck Ignition key 2002 Mazda MPV LX

Does anyone have the photo that's referred to to disconnect the wire? With the age of my MPV and I am the only driver, I don't see any reason to replace the selector switch.

Default Microswitch disconnect

Attached pics show how I disconnected the microswitch. If you lay backwards in the drivers footwell and look up you should be able to see this connector next to the steering column. The release tab is above, out of sight. NOTE THIS IS A RIGHT HAND DRIVE. So the wire is blue. But the concept is the same for LHD - see BabyHuey's post around pg3. Basically pop out the metal clip and seal off. I had mine off for 3 yrs now no prob.

Is a simple matter of locating the connector for the shift lock solenoid and disconnecting. The connector is over on the left side of the steering column just above the ignition switch connector. Pic below is of the connector. Has two wires coming from the harness side. One is Orange and other is Yellow w/ Green stripe. Unplug that connector and key interlock will be disabled.

Sorry new to these forums any idea why I can't see your pictures? Having the same issue was going to splice a push button disruptor switch on the neutral safety switch so that I could get the key out apart from buying the whole new combination switch. Any thoughts?
