I took the car to the mechanic who first thought that I had pinched the valve cover gasket or not applied the gasket sealing material evenly. Anyway, today he told me that the covers are warped. This is quite possible as I had an over heated condition that required the engine to be replaced about 6 months ago. He told me that these can be resurfaced quite cheaply ( about $50 ?) but he cannot get to it for a couple of weeks. I am not sure what is involved but can I take the valve covers off and take them to a place to be resurfaced rather than waiting ? Is it normal for only the covers to be warped or am I just fixing something that will lead to more repairs down the road. Is it normal to resurface valve covers ? Is there another way to seal the oil without having to machine the covers ?
