Rough Shifting out of second gear

As a new member to this forum I hope to get some help with a question I have about rough shifting on a 2004 MPV LX with 73,000 miles.

This year we replaced a throttle position sensor andan ignition coil after van acted like it was not shifting past second gear and would not go faster than 40 mph without jerking and acting like it was going to just die out on the interstate (I 95 in Washington DC while everyone else was going 85).

Recently I get the same thing again, some rough shifting from 1st to second. Almost feels like I have been hit from behind when I take off. The engine light came on and then went off again.

Should I be expecting the worse (like I need a new transmission) or could it still be the ignition coil failing again?

I would like to see if this is common in the MPV. Never had any problems with my 2000 Protoge.

Before I go to the MAZDA dealer (which has been very helpful in the past.), I wanted to get a sense of what is the worse case senario. My previous repairs were very inexpensive ($100) or so.

Thansks in advance for any opinions or comments.

RE: Rough Shifting out of second gear

Based on the other similar problems with other owners, it sounds like two things. First the tranny banging problem could be with the programming since they change gears electronically or the rough running problem might be a coil pack which was similar on my 04. The dealer can reprogram the tranny. Hope this helps.
