rear heater pipes corroded, poor design?
 

hi i have a mpv 2003's rear heater pipes to replace in the next week or two, does anyone have any tips or guidance for this, most of it looks easy enough except the rear matrix to pipes isn't easily visible so may need some searching for.

looks as though it is a bit of a design flaw as the rear wheel arch cover doesn't completly cover water/dirt spray of the tyre, and this pipe gets a (sandblast effect) straight onto the rear heaters pipes.

it's now leaking coolant from the rear.

as said anyone with any experiance with removing these pipes/rear matrix?

The front pipe was recalled on the mpv due to corosion problems about 3 years ago.
I had mine replaced during the recall with stainless steel lines.Last year my rear pipes started leaking and I noticed they were coroded, so I went to the dealer and asked why the rear pipes weren't under recall since it was the same problem. After some convincing I won my arguement even though my warranty was up and they agreed to pay for newer stainless steel pipes at $350.00 and installation. Check it out you may get it replaced free. good luck

here in the UK i'm not sure they did the same recall, not much support by way of mazda here, it tends to be ford garages that are partial mazda dealerships and they arent that experienced with mazda. they initially sent the wrong part and after telling them this he went back and ordered another part, which turned up a field remedy from mazda the new part itself is completely alloy and has rubber/foam coating all the way around itself, the parts guy gave me the remedy instructions aswell which said not to refit the wheel arch pipe cover back on. i'm presuming this part is a partial cause of the corrosion by way of allowing road salt and crud to get onto the pipe and stay there and stopping jet wash cleaning!

i've yet to change it over, i suspect it'll be a job for this week.
