p1518

Hi for all, I live in Russia and I have Mazda MPV 2000. It is good car, but we have not enough of information on it. Now At me the mistake P1518 has appeared, and nobody, does not know, that with it to do. I read about IMRC, but and has not understood, that it is particularly necessary to make with IMRC. Who can somebody will help me?
Thanks.

RE: p1518

Hi safa from Russia and welcome .:D

The P1518 is for IMRC or Intake Manifold Runner Control stuck OPEN. The P1512 in the thread at the link below is for stuck CLOSED. Hear are a few pics of a real operating system so you can compare to yours. The first pic is there to give you an idea of where you will need to be looking. A good bright flashlight is needed as the valve is hard to see. At engine rpm speeds below 3300 to 4000 rpm the gold colored rod/link in the center of the next two pics should look like that. Now when you raise the rpm to 4000 or so then the gold colored rod/link should move to look like the other picture. Try that and see what happens Ok. I hope normansd checks back too. I did not see that there was another question. Sorry.

Thanks bebyhuey, with your help, I think I shall manage to repair my car.
If there will be other questions I shall address again.
Once again thanks!
Sorry for my bad english.

You are welcome safa. One other thing of note that I failed to mention in last post. When you are watching that linkage piece move make sure that it does not take longer than 3 seconds untill complete. Taking longer than 3.5 seconds to make transition from open to close will also set the light.
I thought your english was great. Is a heck of a lot better than my Russian.;)

do i have to replace the whole system if the intake manifold runner is stuck open. Let me know i am really worried?

RE: p1518

You jumped threads on me there ducks98:)
Depends on what is wrong will determine what needs fixed. There are two parts to the system. A set of plates inside the intake manifold and the actuator/cable assembly. If the plates are mechanically stuck open then they would need to be freed up or manifold replaced. If the actuator cable has broken or switch inside actuator that tells the PCM if things are open or closed then would need the actuator. Did you check to see if it was actually plugged in? Would be more suspect of the actuator given that you have both codes stored. Both codes are indicating a loss of voltage signals to the PCM from the actuator. Would not worry about it too much. Is only a system designed to give you a slight increase in higher end RPM range. You probably would not even notice it working or not. Would be much more concerned about the flashing CEL!!!! Might get the code numbers rechecked at Autozone and see what kind of missfire is being set.

how do i free up the plates if they are stuck. Thank you and have a nice day.

RE: p1518

If the plates are physically stuck and you are unable to move that little gold colored lever in the above pics by hand ( or long screwdriver ) then you would probably need to remove the IMRC housing assembly to see why they are stuck and clean/lubricate as needed. The IMRC housing is directly under the intake manifold so that would need to come off to start with. See first diagram below for exploded view of the intake air system. IMRC housing is the part in lower left area. Second diagram is just showing a structural view of the IMRC system.

Hi All
new here
Safa--thanks for starting this thread!!!
Huey---thanks for info so far!
have 2001 miata with p1518 code
this started the day afte i instaled new timing belt(7000 miles)
it only sets code when cold--usualy less than 1 minute
if code is cleared all is fine for rest of day unless engine cools down to ambeient temp.
while code is set it seems to run in limp in mode(rotten egg smell)
this car has vacume opperated flap
vacume is controled by a switch on rh fender

i opperated flap with screw driver and checked vacume pot for leak this am
flap didnt seem stuck and passed vac test.
with codes cleared and started engine and no code set(have not driven yet)
flap does opperate corectly.

i have not found any kind of sensor that hooks to the flap

this code only setting when cold has me baffled!
possible wiring?
vacume check valve?

more info needed !!

Thanks!
