Default New MPV Engine

Hello All. I am the original owner of a 1992 4WD MPV, love and have babied the car, put in a new Jasper engine in 10 years ago at 227,000 miles, have driven 70,000 miles on that engine and now have oil and coolant leaks due to excessive crank case pressure. I am rather "****" about my cars and garage tile floor and want the leaking fixed. My Mazda dealer is reluctant to do whatever is necessary to fix saying that 27 year old parts that may be needed for the fix are no longer available. I would even consider another rebuilt engine, but none seem available. I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you !!

Hmmm, something doesn't seem right. I mean, I cannot say I've ever heard of excess crankcase pressure causing a coolant leak. As for the oil leaks, yes, excess pressure frequently causes that, but often it is simply a matter of a PCV replacement to cure that problem.

Thanks for your thoughts. My oil leak is on the left side under the valve cover. All gaskets, O rings, etc. have been replaced. The coolant leak is from a metal pipe at the rear of the engine. My Mazda dealer feels defective ring/rings is causing the “blow by”. My problem has been to find someone comfortable with giving a correct diagnosis and confidently doing the fix.

How many miles can you drive before needing to add a quart of oil?

Thanks for responding. The van is not at all an everyday driver, so I could go a good 500 miles before adding oil.

Wow, Jasper engines have a pretty good reputation, I'm surprised you're using so much oil after only 70,000 miles. With oil consumption like that it is a pretty good bet either your rings and/or your valve guides are toast, and given the blow-by gasses, the rings is a pretty good bet. If you want a definitive answer, have a cylinder leak-down test performed; that will tell you for sure if there is blow-by from the rings.

While I suspect after ten years the Jasper warranty is expired, but you might want to give them a call just the same.

Thanks for the tip. I found a long-time local mechanic to give it a look, including the leak-down test. I’ll post my findings. Thanks again.
