MPV towing

I have a 2003 MPV and my wife and I are looking at pop up trailers. We didn't get the tow package when we bought, so we will have to add on now. Some of the trailers we have looked at, weigh as much as 3,000 pounds, an my paperwork for the MPV says its rated for 2,000 pounds. How accurate is that figure? should I take that as gospel?

thanks
Kory

RE: MPV towing

MPV with the four seasons package is rated for 3000 lbs towing capacity so you know the engine and transmission can handle the extra load. The added components in the package that will allow for a greater towing capacity is an external oil to air transmission oil cooler, larger radiator, and additional cooling fan. If you go over the 2000 by a couple 100 should not really need to add anything but if getting up to 2500 would definitely add the oil cooler. Would be a very good idea to add the cooler even if only towing 1000 as the cooler will greatly extend the life of trans oil as well as tranmission itself expecially when towing a load. The more weight you add the more additions you might want to add from the 4 seasons package. Oil cooler first, additional fan next and lastly larger radiator very lastif temp gauge starts show getting a bit hot which I doubt it will with extra fan.
