MPV and tires

Hello,

I'm new to the forum and have a 2003 MPV since getting it from the lot with 9KM on it :)

Beautiful vehical except for the tires, the stock Dunlop SP40 205/65/15 91H were really bad in the rain/snow. The slightest touch on the gas pedal in morning dew or rain on the road and the tires spin. I've put on about 40,000 on the vehical and have had enough of those tires. I just switch to Nokian WR 225/60/15 8 96H and what a difference! Totally different drive and handling. Its like a new vehical again...even though its only 2.5 years old ;)

Anyone having the same issues I'd recommend the 225/60 upgrade to whatever tire you require, the Nokian WR is sure nice though ;)

Had the same problems. Just switched to "Goodyear Assurance Tripletred" original size. Works better in rain, hope it is also better on snow or more important at lower degrees. Consumer Report said it#s one of the best all season tire, we will see how it works in the winter time.

Some tire shops offer a thing called "siping" where they make hundreds of tiny slices in the rubber which gives the tire better grip on wet surfaces.
I had my tires siped on my ram truck and it made a ton of difference. $5 per tire!

RE: MPV and tires

We just installed WR's on our 03 MPV. We found many happy campers among Subaru, Audi, and Mini owners . It is the only All Season tire (Nokian calls it all weather) with the Severe Duty Mountain/Snowflake snow rating. It is good enough in snow that some people use them as dedicated snows for the winter.

FWIW the TripleTred costs about the same but did not do very well on snow and ice in the Consumer Reports All-Season test. They rated it #1 overall "if icy roads are not a factor."
