Mazda MPV crank no start

Ok this is a friend of a friends car. I'm not to familar with Mazda's. It's a 2000 not sure of mileage. It cranks over and sounds like it wants to start but doesn't. Strong fuel odor coming from engine compartment. It is stuck in a parking lot and I'm notgoing across town until tomorrow to tow it.Do these have a common problem like a camshaft sensor? Any info would greatly help me out. Also do these have a timing belt or chain? After they told me about the fuel smell I started thinking timing belt.

RE: Mazda MPV crank no start

I had a similar problem with my 96 MPV. I disconnected the battery and turned the headlight switch to the "on" position for about 10 minutesto reset the computer and it started right up.
