I contacted MAZDA USA and NHTSA regarding the A/C switch
Which is hidden behind the Shift lever when the shifter is in "D".
I dont know how many other people find it annoying and sometimes dangerous. I have cought my self trying to look at it to confirm if the A/C is on or Off and have had couple of close calls. I have since, stopped looking at it, but I still have to "fish" for it if I want to turn A/C on while driving.
i think its a safety issue and shoudl be addressed by Mazda.
I have contacted Mazda USA twice in tjhe last month but have not heard anything back.
The only information I found was a road test by Motor Trend back in 2002 and the tester mentioned the small annoyance.
Anyone else find it anoying?

It cannot be too hard for an Auto manufacturer to modify the shift lever so the A/C switch IS visible.
Them not making the MPV anymore shoudl have nothing to do with their respocibility towards their product.
Anyways, if this is not an issue for you, I am happy for you.

It is also an annoyance to me, I have a 2006 MPV, I am surprised that this has been an issue since the 1994 MPV that Mazda never addressed.
I have thought of either a retrofit gear shift handle, perhaps without the offset bends in the stick that when in Drive will not block the A/C button, also do not block the radio ****. Or swapping the A/C button and Rear Window Defrost button.
Besides this issue we have owned our 2006 MPV for about a year now and have totally loved it. Great gas milage, 26 MPG highway on our trip to Disneyland, and same for our trips to Las Vegas, Yellowstone, Sequoia National Park, and Bryce Canyon . Good power, slightly smaller engine than comparable wagons/minivans but the power is very adequate and gets much better miles per gallon than the comparable wagons/minivans. Perfect size, fits family of six, sufficient storage and just the right size to fit into small parking spaces and great u-turn radius.
