Cooling fan? When does it work? 98MPV

My 98MPV never seems to have the electric fan powered/turned. I wonder when it suppose to turn. By the way, the vehicle hit a deerand got worked on in a body shop 7-8 years ago. I can feel the engine is real hot but never see the electric fan turns once for last 7-8 years. Where should I look at first? Thanks in advance..

Your engine radiator is cooled by the mechanical fan only on the front of the engine. The electric fan will only run when the A/C is turned on and compressor clutch is engaged. Otherwise it will always be off.

Do I get it right that? The electric fan will turn only when the AC is powered on. If my memory serves me right then AC is on or off I never see the fan turns for last 7-8 years. Any suggestion on what to do next or how to check the fan. Thanks for quick reply.

Well if it isnot running even with the A/C compressor running then you do have a problem Mitvongnam.
You could start by checking the 20 amp fuse in the underhood fuse box labeled AD FAN. This fuse box is located in right rear corner of engine compartment. (right and left is oriented as if you are sitting in drivers seat) Fuse labels should be on underside of fuse cover. If that checks ok then would look at the fan and make sure it is even plugged in (body shops notorious for leaving things unplugged [:@]). If it is connected then goahead and disconnect. Use a set of speaker wires or jumper wires and run power and ground directly from the battery to the fan connector. Red wire at fan connector is positive and black is negative. If fan runs then go over to the drivers rear corner of the engine compartment and take cover off of relay box. Should again be labeled under cover and you will be looking for the Condenser Fan relay. Should be two rows of four relays (some may be not used however). If no label then it should be the relay in the inside row and closest to front of van. Swap that relay with the one just to the outside of it in the other row. That is your rear defrost relay so can do without it for a little while. Hopefully, somewhere in these checks you will see the fan working again and you will have found the solution. Let know what you find out or if other questions/problems.
