I have a 2001 Mazda MPV. When I got home from the store the other day and shifted into park, the shifter traveled past the normal position (almost vertical) and now the dash reads Neutral. I can pop the shifter loose and it flops up and down, but the car stays in Neutral. I have searched and searched and found two possible problems. 1, the Neutral Safety Switch and 2., the shifter cable. The problem is that I can't find anywhere that gives a result when I search for "MPV Shifter Cable" or "Trans Cable" or "Shifter linkage".

Someone please help. I have a place that will do the labor for free, but I have to supply the part(s). I wanted to take both to him, but can't find the cable or even what to call it.

 

Ring your local Mazda dealer, give then your chassis number & ask for a shifter cable.
