2000 MPV V-6

My MPV snapped a belt located directly to the right of the engine, and underneath a narrow plastic cover held by 2 small hex bolts. It's related to the cooling temperature as the gauge rises to "H" really quick. It seemed like an old belt, and replacing it was simple. Raising the belt tensioner, it easily slipped over the 3 spinning devices. It's been about a week, now the new belt has snapped! Not sure what's really happening but when the belt was on and turning, there was a noise coming from one of the spinning devices, almost as if it needed lubrication. Any suggestions? Thank you.

that's your water pump belt. Who replaced the belt for you? you should not drive when the belt snapped, and whoever replaced it for you should do it over at their expense.

the water pump is driven by the cam of the left bank, water pump is under the cam pulley, and there's a belt tensioner in between. just take the protective cover out, and check if there's any wobble on any of pulleys.......chances are the belt was not installed properly, or you might need a new water pump, which is a huge pain in the neck to replace.
