I own a 2000 MPV 2.5. I had both fans replaced three months ago but since then periodically both fuses for the cooling fans blow out. The mechanic changed the fuses from 30 amps to 40 but last night the 40 amp fuses blew, the car heated up and we had it towed back. The wiring looks OK from what I can see. The fuses appear to blow when there is a lot of strain on the engine, i.e., hot weather, long trip. So could it be that I have a problem with the cooling system which is putting a big strain on the fans? Plugged radiator, bad thermostat, air lock??? I did find a leak in the plastic reservoir so the system was not under pressure and was losing coolant so could that have put enough strain on the fans to cause the fuses to blow?

Also I noticed that there are two arrays of what I assume are relays for the fans under the hood, one next to the fuse box, the other on the passenger side. Both have two large black boxes (coil inside) and a green one. Could these be a problem? Any thoughts people? Thanks

I have the same year, make, and model your MPV, and my mine is exhibiting the same exact symptoms.
Several mechanics have failed to locate the fault. They also replaced the factory 30A fuses with 40A fuses, one of which has blown multiple times (driver-side).
Did you ever resolve your problem?
If so, I'd really appreciate knowing what the actual cause was.

I had to replace the fan assembly again which it appears was causing the fuses to blow. Mazda doesn’t make these fans anymore so the replacements are made in China and not very reliable. But I haven’t had any problems since the last replacement. I also changed mechanics. Maybe the new guy did a better job. Good luck.

 

zorro, I appreciate your quick response. Glad to hear your overheating problem is solved.
I'm going to run some tests on the fan motors to see if they are the culprit, as was in your case.
I'll post again when I finally track down which component is blowing fuses.
Our 2000 MPV is the best vehicle we've ever owned (going on 12 years now). Hoping to get it back on the road soon.
