2000 mazda mpv code p1518 and p1520

I went to the dealer with my 2000 mazda mpv to check why my engine light was on and said CODE P1518 AND P1520 was causing the problem. How can I repair it? What is a purge solenoid connector? The dealer says the purge solenoid connector is bad on this van also. This morning my check engine light started to flash? What could cause that too? Thank you very much.

RE: 2000 mazda mpv code p1518 and p1520

P1518 and P1520 are both indicating problems with the IMRC or Intake Manifold Runner Control system. See link below for a little more information on it. The IMRC actuator is bolt on top of the right side valve cover next to the radiator. Would check to make sure the electrical connector to it is even pluged in to start with to set both of those codes. In the first pic of this link you can just see the IMRC actuator at left edge and connector too.

Is the purge solenoid valve connector broken or just wire to it?? Lot of problems with broken wire due to harness being to tight. Purge valve is located on the rubber boot between air cleaner and engine. Check both of these links to both location and TSB for harness repair.

Flashing CEL means that a severe engine missfire is being detected that could damage your catalytic converter and cost you a lot of $$$$ to replace. Should also have set a code with P0300-P0306 code.

Thanks for your help you are the greatest. Another thing i need to ask you.
My transmission on 2000 mazda mpv when moving off from a complete stop it sticks and jerk hard then it moves off and shifts smoothly. This started happenning after i changed the transmission fluid and filterin the van. There is a delay when it goes into reverse and drive.Other than that it drives smooth and shift smooth and doesn't overheat thanks for your help.

RE: 2000 mazda mpv code p1518 and p1520

Outside of making sure the fluid level is not over or underfull, would make sure that the correct auto trans oil was used. 2000 MPV calls for the use of Mercon III/Dexron II ATF. The use of some other type such as Mercon V can definitely change the shift quality and characteristics. Fluid level should be check on level ground with engine fully warmed up, preferably after a 10-15 minute drive on the freeway to get ATF up to normal operting temperature. Couple of marks that you will see at bottom end of dipstick. Level should be between these two marks. Below should be an accurate view or what the end of transmission dipstick should look like. Note the levels for two different fluid temps.

thank you for your respond . i was wondering what is the difference between mercron 3,dexron 2, dexron 3 transmission fluids. My 2000 mazda mpv has dexron 3 transmission fluids in the transmission. That's why i am asking about the fluids. Thank you again for your response.
