1990 MPV engine hunts on grades
Hello Everyone,
I've seen similar problems listed and yet they differ from mine. I bought my MPV new and know it's history. It has always been properly maintained. She has given good service. Now she is acting up really good. Engine runs great, recently however the engine has begun hunting with exteme swings on the tach when pulling a hill. She sometimes hunts so bad that she stalls out. If I goose the gaswhen she starts hunting, she will sometimes quite down and act normally until I come to another grade. She operates flawlessly on flat roadways. I renewed the plugs and plug wires (no change). No smoke or other anomalies to report. All this began shortly after I had the alternator renewed. That failure was due to the voltage regulator allowing the charging voltage to exceed 19 VDC. Could there be a relationship to that failure? Any ideas are greatly appreciated as this blue (going gray via flaking) is an intregal part of our family and I do't won't to put her down just yet. Thanks, gary in Tennessee |
