Won't Start after Replacing Timing Belt
Please help:
I have a 98' 2.5 L Millenia.
Just replaced: timing belt, tensioner, water pump, thermostat.
After doing the above and putting everything back together, the car would start, but would only idle if giving constant gas. Also, small amount of white smoke came out of muffler.
Then, went back in, checked and reset the timing again. Now, without the belts on (ps and alternator), the car will not start.
Any suggestions?

I put a belt on my 2001 millenia, 2.3 engine. It looked like I had all the marks lined up. the repair manual it said to make 2 revolutions and see if it was still lined up
when I did it was not, had to move it one more notch. It started right up.

I changed the head gaskets, timming belt, water pump and other belts. When I went to start it up it would not start. Check the timming, it was off a notch rotated the crank two turns and recheck. It was right on. I have to hold the throttle wide open and leave it that way for a day or so before it will start. I have been doing this on and off now for two months. Every time I start it, it runs a little longer then floods out. I have it now that if I start it I can get out of the car and hold the throttle at around 1200 rpm and it will keep running until the engine warms up to opperating temp. then dies and floods if I release the throttle. Sounds like the same problem you are having. Someone help!!! I refuse to give up.
I had the crank shaft pully off. You want to remove the lower bolt first then the upper one, otherwise you will have trouble getting it off. Reverse the order when installing. When I installed it I used a needle to hold the compressed shaft down. Only thing strong enough and small enough to go through the hole. A common pin won't work.
Good luck!
