Default RPM at 70mph and gas mileage

Hi, I just recently purchased a 1999 millenia and it seems that the RPM's at 70mph is higher than other vehicles I've owned. Could someone give me their RPM's at 70mph and the highway gas mileage. Thank you

I have '99 Protege LX/SE Touring Edition: !.8L FP engine and 5speed manual transmission.
At 70 mph. I have about 3400 on the tach. I too noticed the Mazda turns faster than our current Corolla and Civic. The tach. is also red-lined 1000 rpm. further up the scale than the other two.
I run about 400 miles per 87 octane tank, and don't use 5th below 40 mph. Very long trips at highway speeds confirm the engine is just fine running like this.

our 99 2.3 at 70 mph is turning right at 2550 rpm. at 3000 rpm, it is 85 mph. 3400 rpm would be above 100 mph. a 4 cyl 1.8 otto cycle motor is completely different. for one, the tiny motor has way less power and torque, so it would HAVE to turn faster just to keep up the speed. we have 2 99's, both average about 22 mpg in combined city/freeway. our last long trip, freeway mpg was about 29, at approx 80 mph
