on each side of the unit, remove the plastic covers. then use 2 sets of din tools. the ones with the ***** on the ends are the best. you can feel/hear them click into place. then, you simultaneously push the tools to the outside while pulling the unit out. sometimes they are stubborn. takes me about 4 minutes

On that note, would it be dangerous to pound on one of the tools if 3 of them release the latches and one does not? Cuz I've become EXTREEEEEMELY frustrated because one of the tools doesnt wanna drive all the way in which means I cant get it out!

And does anyone have an aftermarket, non-Mazda stereo replacing their factory one? If so, how difficult is it to re-wire a new one into the factory wiring harness with the factory amplifier? My car has the factory BOSE system and i've been told you have to bypass the factory amp behind the stereo to install a new stereo. Any suggestions? Thanks to any who can help...

You have to buy 2 sets of ford/mazda style radio pullers from an autoparts store. Then peel off the left and right edges of the stereo and you'll see the holes you need to use. Insert the 4 pullers in their holes and yank it out.

or, you could do it the smart way and have an electronics shop do it since it sounds like you may be having too much trouble.

Well.... Mr Blanchard I don't really want to spend a hundred dollars replacing a stereo... That's almost as much as I paid for the deck itself... Ridiculous people at Circuit City... They think they are soooooo smart.

And I know of the tools. I have 4 pairs... but how far do they have to go in? must they be driven in as far as possible? just until you hear a click? anything...?

I am also would like to replace my factory stereo with JVC double din aftermarket unit. Do I need a mounting kit? I know I will buy a wiring harness, but I wasn't sure if I have to buy a mounting kit/dash kit. Since the factory unit is double din 4" size, I thought I can get by without the mounting kit.

Thanks.
