Heater
Hi,
I bought my 95 mazda Millenia for $1900 which is an excellent deal, the only problems we have had are that the car at first would not accelerate my trusty shade tree mechanic fixed that problem by adjusting the idle. Well now the only real issue I have with my Mil is no heat! The ac works like a dream however, when turned to the hot no hot air only cold, ICE cold! Any one have any ideas?

I experienced the same problem a few weeks ago in my 98 millenia. It was colder than normal outside and on my way home from work I never could get it to blow warm air. It hasn't happened since then and I hope it never does, but the reason I'm replying to your post is that I had a similar problem with an 88 celica that I used to own. It seems that the wiring in the controls can work its way loose or possibly the temp change outside can affect the contact on the wires. In my celica, it seemed that the "default" was for the warm air to be closed off and the controls made it open to let it through. I came across another button panel at a junkyard for $5 and it fixed the problem. All I had to do was unplug the old one and replace it with the new one (after removing half the dash to get to it). I believe this is the same issue in the millenia. When you adjust the controls you should be able to hear some parts moving behind the dash (quitely). The day mine wasn't working I couldn't hear anything.
I have a 2000 millenia and I had the same problem. I downloaded the repair manual for a 96 millenia, which is not exactly like the 2000 but here the site "http://rapidshare.com/files/51248650/Millenia-1996.rar". We took the radio out to see what we could find and at the same time my friend was reading over some things I had printed off. Come to find out it was the c/c computer needed to be reset. In order to do that you can find that on Pages U22-U26 of the manual. It was either that or it might have been where we took the negitive cable off the battery for about 2 minutes either way I have heat now without taking the dash out. If you can't download the manual let me know and I look at it again and explain it to you. Good Luck!
I have a 98 Millenia and every winter I have no heat. I have ac great all summer and when I switch it back to heat during the weather change the heat does not work. I have found that the door does not shut to allow the hot air to circulate into the cab due to lint obstructing the arm from moving. I found that the arm frees easily with a squirt of wd-40...has worked everytime for me and saved me the cost of taking it into the shop for a mechanic to repair.

Hi africansteve,
I totally understand how frustrating it is to hear it working and not having heat while freezing your buns off!! (I was very appreciative mine had seat warmers when I was at that point!) I hope this solution works for you also...let me know, please.
It was actually the air mix crank that had lint accumulated in it. The crank moves the air mix door to close off air flow and direct the heat into the car interior. The crank in my car accumulates dust and does not move to allow that door to close when it is time for me to use the heater. It will not be shown in the car manual either and I found no specific repair manuals available for the millenia, but the 626 models are very similar and I found a diagram in one of those manuals that had the dashboard broken down. The air mix door is located behind the vents directly over the stereo....I removed the under cover below the glove compartment on the passenger side....you will have to lie on your back or side looking up under the dash and toward the area behind the stereo.....there are two white plastic cranks that work together to move the door...that is where I sprayed a small amount of the WD-40 and could see the cranks move...NO FORCING THEM. If you can have some one to alternate the air flow from the controls on dash while you do this it is very helpful.....I hope this helps...
GOOD LUCK!
