RE: Air Bag Light blinking

Found to be a code 26. Usually resolved by unplugging the white air bag harness/plug under the driver or passenger seat for 10 seconds and then plugging it back in.

Handling air bag system components improperly can accidentally deploy air bag modules, which may seriously injure you. Before handling any air bag system components:

1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position.

2. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait for more than 1 minute, to drain backup power from air bag computer.

There's a few things you can do yourself, like checking the connectors under the front seats for the side airbags. Or if your horn and/or cruise control don't work either, then it could be the clockspring in the steering column. Otherwise, it is best to take it to Mazda. They can usually fix the airbag connector problems in about one hour labor time. Air bags get tricky, it is best to leave that to the professionals. You don't want to risk air bag deployment while you fiddle around with the system. Those types of problems can usually be fixed at Mazda for about $80 plus parts. Parts would be $0 in the best case, and about $100 (new harness) or $200 (new clockspring) worst case. But, if you deploy the air bags, you could hurt yourself, and would cost big bucks to replace the bag modules.
