96 millenia air duct question

My 96 mill. s is wrecked and one of the many parts that fell off the car was a plastic bottle that has ductwork leading to the air filter. The bottle had an oil residue in it. I suspect it is an "oil bath" for the air filter, Can anyone confirm this? Also, does it have anything to do with the supercharger? Can I eliminate it altogether without serious repercussions? Help!! RE: 96 millenia air duct question

no such thing as an oil bath air filter. those went bye bye about 50 years ago. maybe more. the purpose of the lower part of the air box is to direct cooler air from the outside to the motor. otherwise, it will get very hot air from the engine bay. hot air will very slightly impede performance. ever notice how nice the car runs on a cold day?

RE: 96 millenia air duct question

The plastic bottle was connected to the side of the ductwork which connects to the underside of the air filter. Ther was an opening between the ductwork and bottle and definetly an oil residue in the bottle. It's located on the drivers side, under the air filter. What would the purpose of the bottle/oil be? Thanks for the reply.
