2000 Millenia shifter noise

Car starts fine, when you press the brake pedal in while in park you can hear what sounds like a solinoid right under the shifter make noise, when shifter release button is pressed you can hear a similar noise right behind the ignition switch. When shifted to any gear no noise is made upon release of brake, however when going back to park noise is made again when releasing brake while in park. any suggestions on what to look for and how to get the trim off around shifter to examine parts?

dunno about the noise, but to get the shift surround off, you start with the center armrest. remove the black inner liner, you will see screws. take them off, then remove the handbrake cover. then you see more screws. these, and some clips farther up, hold the center in. iirc, you have to remove the entire faux wood, then the part that goes around the shifter separates. be VERY careful when you start to pry off the part, especially where it bends and goes up. it eventually pops right off.
