'01 Millenia mysterious problem
 

Hey guys,

I'm posting because my girl has run into a problem with her Millennia, so I'm hoping one of you can give me an answer that I can plaguerize and impress her with my guy knowledge. The check engine light came on a couple days ago, so she brought it to a mechanic to find the problem. After running a diagnostic and charging her $40 for labor to look under the hood, they told her that the "fuel boot" is ruptured and needs to be replaced. She actually saw the part, and says it is right under the hood, and is a 5 or 6-inch diameter piece of plastic pipe or tubing. However, they can't supply the part themselves, so they referred her to the nearest Mazda dealer.

At the dealer, she was told that they had never heard of a "fuel boot" and even though she could have opened up the hood and pointed to the broken piece, they insisted that they were going to have to charge her their own $115 diagnostic charge, just to reiterate what the other mechanics said, and THEN charge her for parts and warranty. Sounds like bull****.

So my question is: What is a "fuel boot" and what is the proper word that she needs to say in order to make the Mazda people understand? And is there a place she can get one for cheap and bypass the Mazda people altogether?

Most likely the part keninn posted is what you are looking for. That's a very easy part to replace yourself. It should just be a hoseclamp of some kind at either end and removal/reinstallation of a couple of accessory tubes/sensors into that tube. You probably only need a flathead screwdriver for the job.

Nah I havent actually seen her car yet (I've been on vacation) but I'll let you guys know if that's it...
