Why Miata is the Only Reliable Sports Car

Consumer Reports is the most trusted name in vehicle reliability. Its new list of the top ten cars for reliability has only one sports car. Of course, it's the Mazda Miata.

Sadly this is as much a credit to Mazda building great cars as it is to the fact that there are so few sports cars on the market.

I wonder if the demand for sports cars is declining in favor of EVs.

I have been following AutoLine, an automotive industry podcast and they stated that the EV sales have come at the expense of Hybrids and did not represent a net increase in efficient vehicle sales. This was before the recent surge in Tesla sales so the trend may have finally changed or the Tesla surge may be temporary.

They have reported significant declines in the sale of cars each month at the expense of SUV, Crossover and Pick-up sales. The 4 door sedan may be going the way of the minivan and station wagon before that.

I suspect that the decline in sports cars is the result of people buying pick-ups and SUVs and not EVs.
