Default Red problems

GREETINGS!

I have a 2020 ND RF. I have the beautiful red paint. Problem is that the red paint seems to get every possible chip, minor abrasion, scuff, etc. Does any other ND red paint owners have the same problem? Is there a coating that can help prevent the easy damage?

Thanks for your suggestions!

We have a 2021 Mazda CX-30 with the same Soul Red paint color. It sure does look great, but it does show imperfections more prominently than would white, silver or blue. I just wash the car often, keep it waxed (Meguiar's Waterless Wash & Wax is your friend) and try to avoid driving behind dump trucks, etc.

My wife - sort of - has her eyes on a 2025 Miata come springtime and the only color that even looks halfway good on the Miata is the Soul Red. The dark blue isn't too bad, but I wish they offered a bright blue color for the Miata. The silvers and greys just look bland. Black is gorgeous, but too hard to keep clean. It also shows imperfections much more clearly than does the red.

Consider getting a clear paint protection like 3m products and professionally installed. Mostly the front bumper, is a high impact area, The RED somewhat gets reported more than other colors so often on the intent owners surmise without looking into facts that it is the paint. RED is the lowest color in the Mazda production line. The paint is the same formulas as the rest of the Mazda line and so is the preparations and process of painting.
My Mica Black Mazda I have re painted the front bumper once and the hood if I were to keep it would also need a repaint. The thing with Mica is the sparkle looks the same as a chip and vs versa.
Some dealerships may do a courtesy repaint of some body sections but not all and this really has more to do with the relationship with that dealership and if you actually purchased your Mazda from them.

Historically speaking over a few decades there has been some issues regarding some auto manufactures and paint issues. Most had a recall to paint sections of the vehicles. However, the biggest problem came about when the EPA regulated what types of pains could be used in the USA and other requirements or restrictions. the auto manufactures had some challenges for a few years to meet those requirements and still have a durable paint of various models.

I really appreciate the input!

I agree about the Miata colors. Red simply pops and compliments the styling. White looks good. When I had my 94 NA it was the medium blue color and it started to go bad. I had it repainted with the body a stunning medium yellow and the hood and a large spoiler painted a dark complimentary blue. I loved it! A buyer could get the white and then put a darker wrap color on the hood giving it a distinctive look. I believe that would not hurt the warranty on the rest of the car and the wraps can be taken off.

Does anyone know if clear wraps could be applied to protect the red?

RE: a 2025 Miata. A new Miata is coming and the rumors are that it will be a hybrid. I am guessing for more power, etc.

Yes
If applied properly be a trained professional, you would never know the clear film (clear Bra) was on any panels.
I would a few pictures of various colors I have applied it to including a RED but you can't see the clear 3m film lol

I've owned four Soul Red CX-5's (2016, 2019, 2022, 2024) and none of them have had any paint problems. I wax my vehicles every 3 months and recommend others do the same. Washing a vehicle every week and waxing it every few months helps protect the paint. Paint protection film (PPF) I consider to be a waste of money.

The clear bra is a great worthwhile investment and not a waste of money. You will not likely ever get any chips in the area that it is applied to. It will also last for years. If clear #m is used 5 years +

Polishing (you seldom wax new car finishes anymore polish is the product predominately used) will retain the luster and prevent water spots and stains but will not give good impact resistant's from solid objects like debris from the road i.e. small glass, metal, plastics, plat life and small rocks.

Waxing does NOTHING to protect your paint from rock chips

I had a cx-5 soul red I bought in 2017. The hood in particular sustained a lot of chips. I thought I had read somewhere that it was a widespread problem that was addressed in later years but can’t find that now. LOTs of cases if you search the Internet on ‘Soul Red Chipping’.
