Mx5 rf gt
Hey folks from down under in Oz
We have a 2018 MX5 RF GT and recently blackish stain marks started appearing on all 4 rims - some rims have areas where it looks like the actual rim colour is starting to streak and fade . We originally thought the marks were some kind of sling / cast off from the tyre shine that the Mazda dealer had applied after the car's last service about a week ago ( the dealer washes the car and makes the tyres look all pretty after the servciing !! )
After closer inspection it looked like the blackish stains were actually etched into the clearcoat of the rims or underneath the clear coat so we took the car back to the Mazda dealer.
The dealer had a good look and advised that even though it looked like sling / cast off from tyre shine , that the staining was actually occuring from within the rim finish itself and that they had seen this type of staining previously on Mazda 6's but never before on the MX 5 rims. The service manager showed me a Mazda 6 rim with staining that looked very similar to the staining on our rims and also advised that Mazda replaced the rim because it was a manufacturing problem. The service manager advised that the heat emanating from the brakes was apparently causing the staining to come through the rims - he took some pics to send throught to Mazda and said that he thought it was most liklely that Mazda would replace ALL 4 rims that have been affected.
We were advised today by the Mazda dealer that Mazda will be replacing ALL 4 rims under warranty and they will be in touch to advise a date to have the work done to change over and replace ALL four rims.
Cannot fault the Mazda deale's courtesy and professionalism and Mazda Australia have been very proactive and prompt with regards to replacement of ALL the rims under warranty without question.
Just wondering if anyone out there has had a similar problem with their Mazda painted alloy rims ???
