Default Blinking security indicator

Yesterday as I was driving in the rain, I got home and noticed the car symbol with a lock in front of it was flashing inside the oil pressure gauge. My daughter's car is a 2012 mx-5 with 35k on it. The light continues to flash and has been overnight. What would cause this and how to fix it? Someone told me it could be the battery in the key FOB. The light continues to flash with or without the key in the ignition. Thanks.

If your MX-5 is anything like the other Mazda's I've owned, the security light blinks the entire time the engine is turned off.

Thanks. I replaced the battery in the FOB and the light quit blinking while engine running. Stills stays on with car parked and locked up. Trunk opens quicker now.

The light never blinks when the engine is running; no relationship to the battery in the key FOB.

If the immobilizer system loses signal from the key fob, or loses track of it, while the engine is running it will flash the immobilizer light to warn the driver it can't find the key fob.

A low key fob battery could cause this.

Hmmm, my perspective is for cars without pushbutton start. It sounds like yours is from the perspective of cars with such a start button. Yes, no?

Yes, we are think of different generations.

Also the flashing light is oftens the car's way of telling the driver when they are driving that something isn't right & requires attention.

I would recommend a visit to a Mazda dealership for a diagnostic scan.
