Bad assembly or damage after
Have a 2024 MX-5 RF GT built in July and delivered end of Sept. I just noticed the attacment plate for the strut on the trunk lid is different color on the drivers side then the passenger side but the bolts holding it is the proper color which leads me to believe it was replaced after painting. Upon further looking the gaps on the drivers side are larger then passenger side. Have not taken to dealer yet but feel they can't do anything about gaps and really they probably won't answer the question of why. Still wondering if damaged in shipping.

The dealer is not likely to have seen the inspection report. But if the damage happened at a dealership, they may give you the information? The picture while great are not conclusive unless you carefully removed the strut plate. I can see no marring on the nut so whomever manually installed the plate di a great job. The dealership that you purchased the MAZDA if they have a body shop should be able to align the trunk lid. It is a easy adjustment but let a professional do the job.
When vehicle arrive in the hundreds at a time they go through a basic inspection before they are shipped to various dealership. The dealership then goes through the there inspection process as well. You would be surprised how many small imperfection and small damage happens top a good number of new vehicles. Most are all caught and taken care of. But occasional some slip through the cracks. I walked around my Mazda before we purchased it and after they did the predelivery clean and inspection. And even with my picky eye to every inch top and bott (yes, I had them put it up on the lift for me to inspect) lol, I missed that my Mazda was missing the engine cover? this was almost a week after my Mazda was home. LOL Simple call to my dealership and they delivered a new cover to my doorstep. Well in all honesty it was the shop, we have an account with that dealership. lol |

Looking closely it does look like the bolt might have been touched up. Strange the way they put on the wrong color strut support and the gaps on drivers side. Sent a letter a copy of pictures to Mazda of North America by US mail as there is no way to email them with it.

Perhaps your dealership not having a body shop may explain why the truck lid was not aligned properly? IMHO you need to pursue this with the dealership you purchased the Mazda from. |

I think that your trunk lid was removed completely removed and possibly repainted. Look at these markings as supportive evidence?
I f I can see the top of the trunk lid I may be able to confirm this. nevertheless, even if it was Mazda would not have to report it. Yes, it is not aligned properly. Most any body shop could correct that in less than 10 minutes.
I can't really tell if the lid itself was repainted from those pictures. It does hint to a little more clear coat then the other panel next to it??? But at a glance giving all the info so far, I would say 'likely" and it was a good job ? |
