1999 check engine light

After I got my car the check engine light came on within a few days. I took the car back and had it checked and reset and was told it was ok. The light came on again soon after. What can cause this? Thank you

RE: 1999 check engine light

I've had the "check engine light" go on for many different reasons.

Best to have your mech put the code reader on you car and find out which code it is reading, then fix the part and possibly replace the sensor if it has been on for a while.

Also if your mech gets "phantom codes" it could be a double sensor error for the same part. I had mine '99 in to various mechs for "phantom codes" and finally they found a "back-up" sensor they didn't know about. Replaced them both and all was well.

My latest is the P0705, which is a code for auto trans. But since we own manual trans, I was confused. Then a guy posted a reply and told me it is for manual trans as well. It was the clutch switch circut malfunction. It is located on the pedal assembly. I tell you this because I searched all over the internet and almost every car manufacture uses this code with plenty of owners who don't know what it means since they all drive manual trans.
