Strange Sound from CX-9 After Driving at Highway Speeds
 

Hello,

I was wondering if anybody here could help me identify two strange sounds coming from my car. I have brought the car into the dealership but it has been difficult for them to help because it is very hard to reproduce the sound on cue. In fact both sounds only start after driving on the highway for at least 20 minutes, but can continue at lower speeds afterwards. They are intermittent but when they occur can be very loud.

Sound #1:

The first sound is a high-pitched metallic rubbing/screeching sound. It can be heard in this video (you might need to turn the volume up all the way to hear it):



It is faint but distinct. It also is affected by turning as well as braking, in that when I brake the sound will go away but will come back after I release the brake.

Sound #2:

The second sound is a low-pitched rubbing sound that sounds like “wuh-wuh-wuh”. It can be heard in this video (again, you might need to turn the volume up all the way to hear it):



The frequency changes with the speed of the car. In fact once I heard it when starting from a standstill and it was a single slow “wuh”. This sound is also affected by turning and braking, in that when I brake the sound will go away but will come back after I release the brake.

I am thinking that these sounds are related, as they never occur at the same time but alternate between one or the other. If anyone has heard these sounds before and can identify them it would be very helpful as I have not been able to get much help from our dealership.
