recent buyers....likes and dislikes
Just curious what likes and dislikes recent (last three model years) buyers have found with their CX9. What have you found since your purchase things you appreciate and like along with any issues you might be disappointed in. I'm a potential new buyer and just trying to accumulate as much info/research as possible. Thanks for input.
The headlights on our 2019 CX-9 Sig are awful. They extend perhaps 100ft out and then it is complete blackness. They do turn with the steering wheel, so they have that going for them. 2010 camry with stock Halogens was better. (apparently fixed in later models)
The rear hatch does not go high enough. I'm 6' and at max, max, max, height locked in it just brushes me. Also sags a but over time and I have to reset it to max max max height again.
The nav system touchscreen doesn't work when the car is in motion. No deviations from your original planned trip are allowed! If you are in the city you an quickly type what you can at every stop sign/red light. You can spin the dial a.n.d.t.a.k.e.f.o.r.e.v.e.r.t.o.p.u.t.i.n.a.n.a.d. d.r.e.s.s.
There is a big gap between the folded 3rd seats and the 2nd row with nothing covering it. Anything lose in the cargo rolls into there. Handy for stuffing sleeping bag when camping though.
The 2nd row seat fold and slide is clumsy and heavy.
fog lights useless.

Torque, torque, torque, oh my.
handling is wonderful, drives like a big Miata, precise feel, great tracking
interior is gorgeous
exerior is gorgeous
HUD is good.
manual volume/mute control
comfortable for everyone.
lots of storage cubbies, usb chargers
rear aircon controls work well.
Overall pleased. Wouldn't get another one unless they fixed the nav and the tailgate.

Thanks Maxwell for your feedback. Very helpful comments that I haven't seen in mainstream reviews. It's been a challenge finding an ultra clean low mileage used CX9 at a reasonable price. May end up leasing new but quotes are around $100-150 more per month than I got last year at this time when I was semi serious. Not the time to be buying a car I guess. Again, thanks for taking the time to provide feedback.
yeah, I purchased mine in July of this year and it's just a terrible time to be buying. Unfortunately I was in a position I needed to buy and used car prices are just as bad as new. You have to try to get lucky and find a dealership that doesn't try to tack on $3-$4k in add-ons on top of the MSRP. Luckily i had a dealership very close to me that doesn't do those add-ons but I ended up having to pay MSRP for it
I have a few minor disagreements with Maxwell. I think the headlights are OK, but not as good as our Prius Prime. I've heard that CX9 headlights sold outside North America have better lights---Mazda North America, get to work on it. I'm 6' tall, and my liftgate open height is fine. The owner's manual tells how to set the height. If it sags over time, it needs a repair. So-called fog lights are actually designed to illuminate the edges of the road. That said, the CX9 version is really weak. The nav system is designed to help the driver keep their attention on the road--maybe if it allowed changes in motion when there is a passenger in the seat??? I find the comfort level to be more individual than many cars. I'd change the cockpit arrangement slightly. I'd buy another.
I forgot to add my one an only main gripe about the CX9 (so far). I’m really disappointed that you cannot control the rear AC from the front. If my daughter is hot or cold we have to lean back and adjust the temp/fan from the rear because she sits in a car seat and can’t reach. Our Toyota Highlander allowed all controls from the front.
I have 2019 CX-9 Grand touring, I like the features it offers, but see some room for improvement.
First, the inner covering (pardon my way of describing) is not up to the mark, I mean areas near the pedal, behind the steering column.. I can see the filler material or blanket. Its, as if they do not expect any one to bend down and look there, the steering rod also looks exposed.
Second, Internal sound absorption is not great, and the inner slide below the moon roof feels flimsy, other plastic parts near the wheel well too
Third, Engine power ..feels a bit under powered, may be adequate in most case, but a bit more would have helped. Mine is FWD, so not sure if AWD is better here
Fourth, the Power seat motor that slides the seat front or back, is not perfect. I mean may be a little bit more power and limit switch ?
Its definitely value for money, the features we get for the cost is good.
My previous car was 2009 BMW 528i, external noise isolation was great, Bluetooth/Hands free was really nice, the inner slide below the moon roof was heavy and felt solid. The power seat motor was strong and powerful. Not trying to compare Apples and oranges, but its 2009 tech while CX-9 is 2019, so was expecting better

So, I just became a recent buyer....2020 Signature, white with chestnut with only 2200 miles. Paid a little more than wanted but have spent past couple months looking with little success and dealer gave me more than I expected on trade in. Traveled to a dealer 150 miles from home and drive home on 70-80 mph highways was great.....very solid vehicle. Was told not navigation ready but found sd card inside the manual booklet, inserted, and now have nav. Not sure yet how to update, if needed. Now need to learn how to work everything. Any tips, hidden tricks on stuff will be appreciated.
Following up on my recent comment regarding tips and tricks. I'll be more specific regarding the shortcomings of this vehicle. Certainly not regretting my purchase but would like to upgrade some areas if possible including the lack of puddle lights and weak ambient lighting. Anyone out there do any upgrading in these areas?
Also, anyone able to provide a recommendation regarding best product to install for wireless carplay? Thanks,

I like the vehicle. One disappointment was in Lane keeping Assistance. Vehicle appears to just warn if departing lane. Does not appear to have capability to maintain lane. This was surprising to me. I thought all vehicles would have this capability by now. When I search on line, it appears Cx9 should maintain lane, refers to Lane Trace function, but I cannot find it on my vehicle. Has anyone found a way to set up vehicle to maintain lane?
Thank you.
Thank you.
