Default Rear axle removal

I'm replacing the rear differential on a 2014 CX-9, and I'm having a H3!! of a time getting the axles out of the differential. First I tried popping them out while the differential was still mounted, since that's when the most leverage was available. I gave it everything I had with a 24" pry bar, and nothing. So I figured the CV joints might be bottoming out against the hubs, and I lowered the differential to give me some slop in the joints. Still nothing.

Does anyone have a technique or recommended tool for this? Thanks!

A little heat might help, or a CV shaft puller.

With the diff lowered, a slide hammer with a 2.5" CV axle adapter worked like a charm.

Did you remove the axle from the hubs first?

No. To remove the axles from the hubs, you have to either remove the differential (not hard) or completely disassemble the rear suspension (hard).
