new to site and Mazda- thinking about buying CX-9

Hello,

I am thinking about buying a CX-9 for family car and wanted to get some feedback about the more-costly-than-usual repair issues I need to consider before purchasing. I am pretty familiar with Hondas, but not Mazda. I am looking at 2014-2016 models. i see some posts about water pump/timing chain issues, but anything else I should be prepared for ? Engine or tranny problems/quirks ?

Thanks for any help

I've only heard of 1 case of a water pump issue & never any timing chain issues.

Transfer Case issues on the AWD versions are a known issue.

Brake shudder is common.

The 2016 is the all new version. I really like mine. The older version had a few problems.

Hello TL99999
Like you I am new to this site. I came on here to find out about selling my 2014 CX9 Grand Touring.
This is the second CX9 which I have owned, (previous one was a 2010) and both have given me trouble free motoring. I keep the regular maintenance up and last year I had the lower control arms replaced free on a Mazda recall.
They are an ideal car for a family and the third row of seats is user friendly and comfortable for adults, unlike other manufacturers who offer the third row option in their SUVs.
The 3.7 litreV6 engine is the Ford Lincoln engine and is trouble free. The only issue is that the MPG, which ranges between 19 and 23. At 50,000 miles I changed the spark plugs from FOMOCO, (Ford) to NGK and now the MPG ranges between 22 and 25.
I intend flushing out the cooling system and putting in "fresh" antifreeze before winter, of before I sell it and I am expecting to replace the original Bridgestone tires before the next winter. The tires still have plenty of tread on them however probably not enough to cope with a South Dakota winter. My reason for selling is that there is only my wife and I left at home now and we are both looking to retire and will only need a smaller vehicle. Thanks Johnnymac
