Metal on metal

heya

So I had my rear brakes and rotors replaced on my 2010 cx9 this summer. About two months ago I started hearing a metal on metal noise when in reverse, only when the wheels were cut to the left. Took it in, the shop said there’s no problems, everything looks good, probably just some moisture. Now when I back up the noise is always there but wayyyyy louder. Like it can be heard inside my neighbor’s house. It’s there in any wheel position, slightly muffled when the brakes are applied. My first thought was calipers because that’s the only time I’ve heard a noise that bad but again, I’m being told there’s absolutely no problems.

1. Someone please tell me this isn’t normal.
2. Any ideas?

It can be something as simple as a pebble caught between the back plate and the rotor. Try taking off one wheel at a time for a good look. They all should look similar--smooth shiny, maybe slightly uneven rotors, and nothing loose when you wiggle it.

Get your wheel bearings checked by a competent mechanic. Cx9s are common for front wheel bearings.

Also get them to check, clean & adjust the handbrake shoes.
