The battery I asked about in my initial post is a March 2020 battery. My battery analyzer shows about a 65% SOH reading and said to recharge. I put it on a maintainer overnight (1.5 amps/p/h). This brought it up to 75% SOH and 100% SOC. So perhaps I’ll get some more use out of it. I do carry a battery pack charger that I’ve used multiple times helping other motorists.

How did you determine your battery manufacture date? That is a good result for even a battery sold to you in March 2020!

Fior some that do not know the SOC meaning = State Of Charge.

 

I’m guessing a little bit on that as March 2020 was the build date of the vehicle. So it could be a January or February 2020 battery or even earlier. I don’t believe that factory batteries have a manufacture date on them, at least I’ve never been able to find one. When I buy a new battery I insist that it be a very recent build date as in 2 or 3 months max.
The Chrysler minivan plant is close to where I live. I know that the batteries that they use are very fresh as in just a few days or weeks old particularly since they adopted the “just in time” delivery.

 

All batteries have a manufacture date. If you look it will be melted in the top plate. It will not look like a date but a bunch of numbers and letters. They tell all about the battery and when it was manufactured.

The sticker do not denote the manufacture date only the date they were either rotated or store level dating NOT manufactured date.

I am VERY familiar with Chrysler parts manufacturing as my very good friend is head of one of the Powertrain Engineering Development Department at Chrysler. The batteries they use are dated the same as all batteries and seldom are they as new as some think. Stickers are for inventory and rotation use and do not usually never have the manufactured date on them primarily because of the rotation service procedures.


I am only posting this information (for about the 40th time on forums) because of the widespread belief that consumers often assume they have a very newly manufactured battery. When I get a customer or on forums when they state their batteries failed and it is only X=less then 2 years old I often find that that battery ends up older than they thought it was. Sometimes it that adds to why the battery had issues?

I do always recommend that when buying a new battery to at least find one with a date "STCIKER" as resent as possible and that the batter is not wet. Also ALWAYS have it load tested before you leave the store or shop in front of you.

 

Thanks for that info. I did check the battery and sure enough, it does have a code. A little Google research about deciphering said code tells me it is a January 2020 battery.

 

 

Aftermarket batteries usually have a date sticker that will show either the month and year of manufacture or a code...B/22 would be the second month (B) of 2022, February 2022, for example. I don't know how OEM batteries are coded. My 2017 Toyota's Yuasa OEM battery is coded UE1976 C, which is meaningless to me. The label with punch-out dates is for the date of purchase when the warranty begins. When buying a battery get the newest one you can; it'll have longer life, other things remaining equal.

 

Often a misconception and misunderstood item about 12 volt batteries!
That is NOT the manufactured date of the battery. That is a retail date or battery rotation date only.

Battery date codes are melted in the top plate of the battery, and you much decode them!
